About the program
This 6 week program is designed specifically for experts in their fields who have been asked to act as an expert witness in legal proceedings.
Many experts – while highly skilled in their field – find acting as an expert witness complex and sometimes intimidating. With the right preparation, you can ensure you are ready to meet the challenge of acting as an expert witness head-on.
Even if you have acted as an expert witness before, this program will provide valuable insights that help you fulfil your role more effectively.

The program covers:
1 / The fundamentals of being an expert witness
Who can be an expert witness, the legal frameworks and Codes of Conduct that apply, how to work with lawyers and other experts, and the legal principles you need to understand.
2 / Report writing
Letters of instruction, assumptions and findings and how to use them, different approaches to reasoning, and how to structure and write a compelling expert report.
3 / Court testimony
How to prepare for in-person and virtual court appearances, the key people present in a courtroom, and how to navigate cross-examination.

The Expert Witness Training Program is delivered 100% self-paced and delivered to fit around your other commitments.
Throughout the program, you will also have opportunities to join live calls with the course instructors and other experts to ask questions and explore real-life scenarios.
You will also be able to submit expert report samples for review and feedback. This experience will yield invaluable insights you can apply when you are instructed to act as an expert witness.

Rhett Walton
Rhett Walton leads the Quality Assurance team at ExpertsDirect, providing professional editorial support to clients and advising on statutory and professional guidelines for expert reports. Every year, Rhett and his team review more than 2000 expert reports. He is a former Barrister and has experience producing key educational content for LexisNexis. His expertise lies in clearly communicating technical concepts to a lay audience while meeting the expectations and procedures of courts.
Erica Taylor
Erica Taylor is Consultant for Learning & Development at ExpertsDirect. She is passionate about law education and legal technology. Before joining ExpertsDirect, Erica held positions as Director of Special Projects for Jade and Victorian Reports and she has also been an Online Learning Advisor, Manager of Legal Text Production and Director of Knowledge Acquisition. Erica holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Master of Laws from the University of NSW.
