Last week, ExpertsDirect welcomed 17 expert witnesses from all across Australia at the Hilton, Sydney for a two-day intensive training session. 

The two-day program was designed to hone the experts skills in report writing and giving oral evidence in court.

Day one opened with a keynote speech by Dr Ian Freckelton AO KC of the Victorian Bar who spoke about the importance of expert evidence and fundamentals of being a great expert witness. We were very honoured to have Dr Freckelton, who is currently appearing in an inquest in the Northern Territory, take time out of his schedule to pre-record the keynote speech for our event.

The experts then heard from highly experienced practitioners on experts and lawyers working
together; and writing great expert witness reports. Experts listened to a series of talks on engaging with lawyers, the fundamentals of report writing, including letters of instruction, assumptions, executive summaries and reporting writing styles.

On day two, experts heard from highly experienced barristers about the nuances of expert conclaves and giving evidence in court. In the afternoon, experts were put their paces in a mock cross-examination exercise.
