National Pro Bono Day

The fortunes of a case often hinge on the testimony of an expert witness. At ExpertsDirect, National Pro Bono Day celebrates a little levelling of the playing fields. This is where someone who has suffered an injustice, but doesn’t have the finances to pursue it, is assisted for free or a reduced rate by a lawyer or expert witness, generously giving back to the community and the courts.

ExpertsDirect & Australian Pro Bono Centre – a partnership

Nearly six of ExpertDirect’s 11 years have been in partnership with the Australian Pro Bono Centre, sourcing Expert Witnesses to testify for a reduced rate or for free. It is an honour to partner with the Centre and see the impact having access to Expert Witnesses and other members of the legal fraternity has on the lives of disadvantaged people.

We have provided 120 Expert Witnesses for clients experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation and rely on the generosity of our volunteer experts, the altruism of community legal organisations and law firm pro bono programs. More than 215 of our Expert Witnesses are willing to undertake pro bono work.

It continues to be a collective effort to create a more equitable and sustainable society by improving access to justice. We recognise and thank you all today for your efforts.
